My Story

Savannah came to us about 3 years ago from Georgia.  She was a lovely big Akita girl with a happy smile who loved car rides, walks with a friend and a good cuddle.  Nothing was known of her past as she was -- like so many others -- an adult dog who was picked up as a stray and remained unclaimed in the shelter.  She was quickly placed with a family who enjoyed her company for about a year, but a new baby and a new puppy proved to be her undoing, as she really liked neither and was returned.
Every day of a life is a gift, and Savannah seemed to know and appreciate each day to the fullest.  When she was returned to us, Savannah was about 7, which made her a senior Akita girl who didn't really care for puppies or small children.  Savannah had a number of interviews with potential adopters, but always "just missed" that new home either because of her age or her not wanting to be with other animals.  So she stayed here with us and became Maddie's buddy.
She ran errands and took some day trips with Maddie on days off, enjoyed walks and attention and got to spend some time in the front office -- not the same as having a home, but better than lonely days.  She liked her kennel and her bed and she really enjoyed meal time.   Everyone who met Savannah loved her, but no one was able to adopt her.
Yesterday our sweet Savannah had a medical emergency that necessitated our easing her passage over the Rainbow Bridge.  We are deeply saddened by her loss and remember her capacity for love and forgiveness with awe.  Savannah was an amazing Akita girl and we are all better people for having been touched by her gentle and loving spirit.
Savannah, you are missed but we know we'll see you on the other side.
